I’m sorry if this has already been clarified somewhere. I want to edit a midi file, what free software would you recommend? I need to be able to copy what is already there so that it gets twice as long in duration and delete a few crash cymbals in the second round. I hope you understand. If not, please let me know and I will try to clarify further. Cheers.
As I’m not familiar with the program you’re using, I can’t help you. I’d you have GarageBand on your computer, you should be able to at least see the drum instrument names in the MIDI editor.
I had the same issue trying to keep things organized, especially when experimenting with different drum parts. I started using metadata tagging strategies for audio files to keep better track of versions, song sections, and instruments. It makes things easier when importing back since I can quickly spot what goes where without opening each file. Just keeping naming clear wasn't enough for me after a while.
