How to Burn Your Candle Safely

  • Burning a candle safely requires proper care and attention Follow these tips to ensure a safe, even burn every time.

    Achieving a Full Wax Pool

    • Burn your candle for at least 2–3 hours during the first use. This ensures the wax melts evenly across the surface, creating a full wax pool and preventing tunneling.
    • Don’t panic if tunneling appears in early burns. As the flame moves lower inside the vessel, the heat will often smooth out the wax pool naturally.
    • A full wax pool enhances the hot scent throw and ensures a cleaner burn, maximizing your candle’s performance.

    Burn Duration Guidelines

    • Avoid burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Prolonged burns can cause the wax to overheat and potentially damage the vessel.
    • Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting. This preserves the integrity of the wax and fragrance oils.

    Safe Container Placement

    • Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface to prevent accidents.
    • Keep candles away from drafts, vents, fans, or open windows, as airflow can cause uneven burns and excessive flickering.
    • Avoid flammable surroundings such as curtains, paper, or decorations.
    • Exterior vessel temperatures can vary, especially during extended burns. Handle vessels with care and allow them to cool before touching or moving.

    General Candle Safety Tips

    1. Trim the Wick: Always trim the wick to 1/4 inch before each burn to reduce soot and ensure a steady flame.
    2. Monitor Your Candle: Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
    3. Extinguish Safely: Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame cleanly and avoid splattering wax.

  • I always trim the wick to about a quarter inch before lighting, and I never let it burn more than a few hours so the glass doesn’t overheat or crack.

  • I also switched to a ceramic candle holder after seeing wax drip all over my wooden table—big mistake. The ceramic base doesn’t get too hot and is way easier to clean, plus it feels way sturdier than glass ones I had before. I still trim the wick and watch the burn time, but the holder made a big difference in keeping things safe and mess-free.
