Hello!!
Just wondering why one of my cat scratches on the surfaces around the litter box rather then actually covering it. Does she think that the litter is dirty so she doesn't want to actually touch it?

Hi Nathan,
As we know, cats in the wild cover their feces to avert attention from predators. Most domesticated cats instinctively do this as well, but not all of them. Your cat may not feel the need to cover hers, as she not threatened by others in the home - both animal and human. The scratching around could just be to amuse herself and that she doesn't mind her time spent in her litterbox (like some cats do). No one likes to touch eliminated waste, but cat's are not usually as picky about such things as we are.
