Adult cat kneading and sucking on blankets

  • Why have my 18mos,old cats started kneading and sucking on a blanket?

  • My 15 year old cat still does this on occasion. It's adorable and I assume it's comforting.

  • Hi there!

This can be common behavior for cats, and is typically not too much of a cause of concern. This is usually a sign to convey comfort, show affection, or to seek out comfort when they're slightly stressed.

Cats will also sometimes pick up this habit if they were separated from their parents too young.

    Hope this helps!

  • My 6yr old cat, adopted when 5months old, used to knead on blanket while holding blanket in front of mouth-then jump off & lick a small erection. He's was neutered b4 adoption. Thought procedure had failed, then he stopped. In past 4 months he started again but no erection, the blanket's on me & I jump a bit if he nips my toes by accident, that stops him. If I try petting him or tugging gently on blanket he continues behavior. Is he having new stress or looking for more affection?
