Andrea Echeverri and Diego Martinez are two cat lovers who decided to change their lives and help all the kitties they could.
Andrea is a writer and a University professor who teaches teaches film Language and History at Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano in Bogota. Diego is a journalist and the program director of "Historias del Blues," a blues radio-show at Javeriana Estereo.
About the cafe:
Since the arrival of Lulu, their third cat, Andrea and Diego realized they needed a bigger home with more space for their cats to play. They also wanted to continue to rescue cats by being a foster home. That's the philosophy of Gatos y Blues: rescue cats and find them lovely homes.
The cafe is a warm place where you can feel at home. The furniture was made from recycled materials and its design considers both people and cats; you can sit at a table to work on your laptop while a cat sits next to you on a tiny carpet. You can also read a book with a cat on your lap.
The cafe offers healthy, simple, and original food, tea, coffee, juices, smoothies, organic cookies, cakes, and sandwiches. The music makes Gatos y Blues special; it's the only place in Bogota where you can listen to blues and jazz all day long.
The cafe is a place to be away from the daily stress and routine of life. Visitors come, drink coffee or tea, have something delicious to eat, and then stay with the cats at Gatolandia (catland). There, they can play with the cafe's cats, cuddle them, and feel their therapeutic company. Visitors usually report that they feel better after playing with the cats. Some of them even adopt the cat they play with, and those are the best stories of all.
Gatos y blues is a tiny and special place. The cafe strives to be an example of how to care for cats, how to stay with them, and the importance of giving rescue cats a good life.
