Turning your driver’s license into a creative business card

  • Hey everyone! I work in marketing and recently saw someone use a custom driver’s license format as a business card at a networking event. It included their headshot, full name, job title, and a QR code to their portfolio. It was such a fun way to stand out, but I’m worried it might be hard for people to store or even take seriously. Has anyone tried repurposing ID templates for professional branding? I’d love tips on layout, materials, and how to balance creativity with practicality.

  • That sounds awesome! I actually did something similar for my freelance design business last year. I grabbed an editable ID layout from https://fakeidtemplates.org/driver-license-maker/ then customized the fields to show my skills and social links. I printed them on thicker matte cardstock and rounded the corners so they fit in wallets easily. Adding a small QR code to link directly to my portfolio was a hit—people didn’t have to type URLs. Just make sure your text size is legible and avoid cluttering too many icons. A simple, bold header with your name and a clear portrait makes all the difference.

  • Interesting idea—I’ve only ever handed out standard business cards, so this feels fresh. I wonder if it would slip behind other cards in a holder, though. But it definitely seems like a great conversation starter at events.
