New Research Shows that Cats May Be Deeper Than We Know
A new study from Japan suggests that cats may be more intelligent and have better memories than we realize. Existing scientific opinion gives the edge to dogs, but the experiments from the University of Kyoto showed that cats were equally capable of remembering which of two bowls they recently ate from, and recognizing a variety of human facial expressions. Saho Tagaki, one of the psychologists involved in the study, even speculated that cats might savour precious memories, the same way that humans do. Tagaki added that "episodic memory is viewed as being related to introspective function of the mind," and that "our study may imply a type of consciousness in cats.”

Cats Caught Up in Macabre Berkeley Mystery
Roger and Val Morash were found dead in their Berkeley apartment on Monday evening, along with their two cats. There were no signs of forced entry or violence, and carbon monoxide and radiation poisoning tests came back negative. The cause of death of all four remains a mystery.

Scientists from Juarez University in Mexico have found that women with bad premenstrual symptoms – such as anger and depression – are more likely to have a parasite carried by cats in their bloodstream. One hundred and fifty women with especially bad symptoms were tested, and ten were found to contain the parasite. These ten were nine times more likely to report feeling ‘overwhelmed’ or ‘out of control’ in the run up to their period than parasite-free women.
